Toddy tappers have begun to move on from the tedious and risky job to easier and better-paying ones, creating an acute shortage of tappers for the coco-sap processing industries. SAPER instead automates the process of tapping and collection of sap, controlled via a wireless network powered by solar electricity. It’s a completely self-contained farm solution.
Product summary
SAPER is the world’s first robotic coconut sap tapping device which can replicate all the tedious tasks done by a tapper. Minimum training is required for the new job opportunities it will generate in rural areas in the post-processing of the sap (neera). The product also works on solar energy throughout its lifetime, leaving zero carbon footprint.
Impact
- SAPER reduces the number of human tree climbs from 270 times to just 2 times in a period of 3 months.
- The device and process has been patented in 28 countries, covering more than 90% of coconut growing area in the world.
Support and recognition
Nava Design received the Idea Day Grant from Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), as well as the Ankur Grant from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)
