New Delhi: Sukriti Social Foundation won the National startup awards 2020 in the urban services category, under the theme of waste management.
There were 57 contestants in the theme of waste management.
Sukriti Social Foundation
Sukriti is a not-for-profit company, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, working towards social and economic upliftment of the country through sustainable engineering initiatives and innovations. They are a group of graduates from IIT Roorkee that have developed a smart public toilet, Eco-Mitra.
Product summary
The Eco-Mitra is automated for self-cleaning and self-maintenance, as well as deciding when to flush and clean the floor with water. The automation uses no physical sensors that can be broken, damaged, or stolen, making it a robust system that can withstand rough public usage. It also works completely on solar power.
Impact
- The Eco-Mitra is solar-powered, but also keeps a manual flush system as a backup for when it has no power.
- No physical sensors means they can’t be damaged or stolen.
- Wastewater is treated and reused for flushing the toilet.
