Siemens Mobility has received an order from Indian Railways for 1,200 locomotives of the 9000 horse power range, the largest single locomotive order in the history of Siemens Mobility and the largest single order in the history of Siemens India.
Siemens Mobility designs, manufactures, orders and tests locomotives. The delivery period is planned for 11 years and the contract includes 35 years of full service.
The locomotives are assembled at the Indian Railways factory in Dahod, Gujarat, India. The maintenance work is carried out at four Indian Railway depots located at Vishakhapatnam, Raipur, Kharagpur and Pune. Locomotive assembly and maintenance is done in collaboration with Indian Railways employees.
The total cost of the contract, excluding taxes and price changes, is approximately 3 billion euros.

The modern locomotives are used in freight services across the Indian rail network and are specified to transport ,500 -ton loads. at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
They produce 9,000 horsepower. and are one of the most powerful freight locomotives in the world, equipped with advanced propulsion systems, which are also manufactured locally at Siemens Mobility factories in India.
India has one of the largest rail transport and logistics networks in the world, with 2 million passengers on more than 22,000 trains every day. In addition, the Indian government plans to increase the share of railways in freight transport to 0- 5% from the current approximately 27%. India is one of the few countries in the world with an almost fully electrified railway network.
