NIRF 2025 rankings: Telangana engineering colleges performance

The state featured prominently in the Top 100, with three institutions.

Telangana has steadily consolidated its position as one of the emerging centres of engineering education in India, and the 2025 NIRF rankings reflect this trajectory.

The state featured prominently in the Top 100, with three institutions making the cut — led by the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (Rank 7), which has firmly established itself as a national leader in cutting-edge engineering research and education. Alongside IIT Hyderabad, the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (Rank 38) continued to hold its reputation as a premier institution in computer science and related fields. Completing the top-tier representation was SR University, Warangal (Rank 91), a relatively young but fast-rising private university.

Beyond the top 100, Telangana had a broad base of institutions in the 101–150 rank band, underscoring the state’s expanding higher education network. This group included Anurag University, Hyderabad, Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, CVR College of Engineering, Ibrahimpatan, Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Kakinada, Mahindra University, Hyderabad, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad, Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, Vardhaman College of Engineering, Ranga Reddy, and Vignan Institute of Technology and Science, Yadadri-Bhuvangiri. Their presence in this band highlights how Hyderabad, in particular, continues to nurture a strong cluster of private, autonomous, and university-affiliated engineering colleges.

Telangana’s spread extended into the 201–300 band, which contained several institutions with solid reputations regionally. This list featured CMR College of Engineering & Technology, Hyderabad, CMR Technical Campus, Hyderabad, G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology & Science for Women, Hyderabad, GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam, Godavari Institute of Engineering & Technology, Rajahmundry (Andhra-adjacent ecosystem, but often aligned with Hyderabad talent pools), Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science, Warangal, Malla Reddy Engineering College, Hyderabad, Malla Reddy Engineering College for Women, Hyderabad, MLR Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, and Sreenidhi Institute of Science & Technology, Ranga Reddy. Together, these institutions add to the density of technical education capacity that characterises the state.

Overall, Telangana’s NIRF 2025 engineering performance reflects a three-tier profile: the top-end institutions like IIT Hyderabad and IIIT Hyderabad, a growing set of private universities and autonomous colleges in the 101–150 band, and a large number of mid-tier engineering colleges in the 201–300 range. This layered distribution suggests that while the state has achieved excellence at the very top, it is also cultivating a broad ecosystem of engineering colleges that support workforce development and research in technology-driven sectors.
