NIRF 2025 rankings: Kerala engineering colleges performance

The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) leads the state’s showing

Kerala continues to maintain a respectable presence in the national engineering landscape through a handful of high-profile institutions. The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) leads the state’s showing, securing a position in the top 25 nationally. With its reputation for research and teaching, NITC remains Kerala’s most prominent engineering institution under the NIRF framework.

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, is another standout, featuring within the top 70 nationally. Its specialized focus on aerospace and space sciences, and its strong association with ISRO, make it a unique institution not only in Kerala but also at the national level.

Among state-run colleges, the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET) continues to hold ground, appearing in the 101–150 band, while the TKM College of Engineering in Kollam featured in the 201–300 range. These long-established government and aided institutions remain critical for Kerala’s engineering education base.

Kerala’s private participation is smaller compared to neighboring Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, but several institutions did enter the extended list in 2025. Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science (Puthencruz) and Vedavyasa Institute of Technology (Malappuram) both featured in the 201–300 bracket, alongside the University College of Engineering, Thodupuzha. This indicates steady, if modest, representation of private players from the state.

Overall, Kerala’s presence in NIRF 2025 engineering rankings is anchored by NITC and IIST, supported by CET, TKM, and a handful of private colleges in the longer tail.
