NIRF 2025 rankings: Delhi engineering colleges performance

This marks yet another year of IIT Delhi holding a commanding position.

Delhi has remained a prominent centre of engineering education in India, and the 2025 NIRF rankings highlight both the capital’s top-end performers and the breadth of its institutional network.

The city is home to one of India’s very best — the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, which was ranked 2nd nationally in 2025. This marks yet another year of IIT Delhi holding a commanding position, second only to IIT Madras, and underlines its continuing strength in research, innovation, and global reputation.

Outside IIT Delhi, the Delhi Technological University (DTU) maintained its place among the nation’s top engineering schools, ranked 30th. Alongside it, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) achieved a national rank of 63, reflecting its growing prominence in computer science and emerging technologies. The Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) was placed at 70, consolidating its position as a leading state-run technological institution. Collectively, these four institutions give Delhi a strong representation in the Top 100, spanning both a premier IIT and established state universities.

The capital’s footprint extended further into the 101–150 rank band, where institutions like Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) appeared, showing how the city’s university system is diversifying its engineering education offerings. Delhi also had a presence in the 151–200 band, with institutions such as Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), which has been a pioneer in women-focused engineering education, and others that form part of the wider ecosystem.

In the 201–300 range, Delhi continued to feature through a mix of universities and private institutions that, while not in the national top tier, still play an important role in the state’s higher education landscape. These include Jamia Hamdard, as well as colleges with growing specialisations in applied sciences and technology.

Overall, Delhi’s 2025 engineering profile shows a layered structure: a world-class leader in IIT Delhi, several strong state institutions in the top 100, and a set of universities and private institutions in the next two bands that sustain the capital’s wider engineering education ecosystem.
