NIRF 2025 rankings: West Bengal engineering colleges performance

At the very top, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, is once again the state’s engineering flagship.

West Bengal continues to maintain a visible presence in the NIRF 2025 Engineering Rankings, with both its historic public universities and private players securing places across the bands.

At the very top, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, is once again the state’s engineering flagship. It stood at Rank 18 nationally in the 2025 list, making it the only West Bengal institution in the Top 20. Alongside Jadavpur, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, a long-standing national leader, was ranked Rank 5 nationally, consolidating the state’s representation in the elite top 10 bracket.

Beyond these, West Bengal has no other institutions in the Top 100 this year. However, in the 101–150 band, the state secured multiple entries, including Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Nadia, and Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata.

In the 151–200 band, West Bengal’s presence included Institute of Engineering & Management, Kolkata, and Haldia Institute of Technology, Haldia.

The 201–300 band had wider representation, including Narula Institute of Technology, Kolkata, Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur, JIS College of Engineering, Kalyani, and Netaji Subhash Engineering College, Kolkata, reflecting the contribution of private and affiliated institutions.
